Tips For Making Candles

Starting A Candle Making Business
Candle making can be a great hobby and some people love it so much that they might want to start a candle making business for either full or part time income. Combining your love of your hobby with making money can be a great thing but you must be aware that there are other aspects to running a business that may not be as much fun as the candle making process itself.

The firs thing you need to do is come up with a plan. Where will you sell your candles? How will you advertise them? Will you have a specialty? What about packaging? Business brochures? Business cards? If you have a great product and good customer service, word of mouth can spread and eventually be enough to keep you afloat, but you’ve got to get your product out before you can generate any interest through word of mouth.

One critical aspect of any business is advertising and the candle making business is no exception. You can advertise in your local paper, put up fliers and even advertise online. Get yourself a website and then start writing some articles on candle making and get them distributed around the web. Get your link put on other websites whose customers might have an interest in buying your candles. Hook up with local merchants that might be able to point some business your way. For example, if you specialize in embedded gel candles, you could have a line of candles for weddings and showers and then try to partner with a wedding planner who could suggest your candles to her clients.

Another thing you’ll have to consider is pricing. You want to sell your candles at a fair price - one that allows you a profit but is reasonable for the buyers. Just what is that price? It is mainly dictated by the cost of your supplies so one thing you might consider is getting hooked up with a wholesaler to cut costs. The one thing you do not want to do is cut quality since you will not get much repeat business if you do not sell a quality product.

You will also have to get a good accounting system in place and probably hire an accountant for taxes. At first you might be able to do all this yourself but getting an expert is never a bad idea - a professional may be able to save you more money on taxes than you actually pay for their services. Don’t forget, when candle making is your business you will be responsible for saving every receipt and recording every sale!

Having a candle making business can be a rewarding experience as long as you realize there will be some work involved on the business send of things. If you business does well enough, however, you may eventually be able to hire people to take care of all the other stuff and free up more of your time to do what you love best - make candles!
